We operate our boutique practice of franchise, commercial, and real estate dispute resolution as Law Works PC in Ontario, Ben Hanuka PC in Alberta, and Law Works LC in British Columbia.

We also have a growing continuing professional development (CPD) components through which we provide CPD teaching to the legal profession.

  • We represent Canadian franchisors and franchisees, as well as parties involved in corporate/commercial and real estate disputes.
  • Our practice is made up of commercial and franchise dispute matters, as well as some franchise and corporate/commercial drafting and transactional work.

We are currently accepting applications for the following positions:

Commercial Law/Litigation Clerk

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented commercial law and litigation clerk. As a Commercial Law/Litigation Clerk, you will play a crucial role in assisting our legal team in various aspects of our practice.

This is a full-time position. We will also consider qualified applicants for a part-time position.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • assist lawyers in preparing legal documents, such as briefs, pleadings, and contracts;
  • review and summarize case files, depositions, and other legal documents;
  • file court documents;
  • assist lawyers in drafting franchise disclosure documents and other franchise documents;
  • manage and organize legal documents and files;
  • perform administrative tasks, such as electronic filing, scheduling appointments, and managing correspondence;
  • collaborate with the legal team and clients to provide timely and accurate updates on case progress;
  • support lawyers in preparation for court hearings and trials, and
  • assist in the preparation and delivery of our CPD programs.

To excel in this position, you should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • minimum of two years of experience working as a Law Clerk or Paralegal in a Canadian commercial law and litigation firm;
  • strong knowledge of commercial legal terminology and procedures and litigation/court procedures;
  • excellent research, writing, and analytical skills;
  • proficiency in technology and software, including Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, and Box;
  • exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • strong communication and interpersonal abilities, and
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Associate Lawyer – Corp/Comm Litigation

Law Works is recruiting a full-time associate (or, alternatively, two part-time associates) to join our franchise, corporate/commercial legal team at our main Toronto office. The successful candidate should have 4-5 years experience with a corporate/commercial litigation firm. Experience with franchise litigation would be an asset. The candidate must be a member in good standing of a Canadian provincial law society. The position is largely remote, with weekly in-person team meetings at our downtown Toronto Office.

The ideal candidate should have willingness to learn, close attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and be highly motivated and enthusiastic with an ability to complete work efficiently and effectively. The individual should have a natural ability to work collaboratively with others, contribute to the development of long-term client relationships, and be part of a positive work environment. The candidate must possess strong drafting and analytical skills and have pre-law academic background in writing- intensive fields, such history, literature or political science.
